Description:
What happens to hotel textiles that are no longer in use?
Instead of being discarded, we give them a new life: At the fair fashion factory in Basel, discarded hotel textiles are creatively and locally transformed into marketable products. In partnership with HotellerieSuisse members, we’re launching a pilot project that turns unused materials into stories and sustainable business models.
Why it matters:
In Switzerland, around 110,000 tons of used textiles are generated each year – about half of which are incinerated. At the same time, the global textile industry is responsible for around 10% of global CO₂ emissions. While Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations are still under political discussion, we’re taking action now: Connecting hospitality and circular textile solutions – starting today, hands-on and local.
Your opportunity as a hotel: Get involved and co-create
This pilot project is supported by the Hospitality Booster and guided by experts in textile design, sustainability, and circular business models. The aim: to test and develop simple, practical circular solutions tailored to the hospitality industry.
3 compelling reasons to join
1. Direct benefits & storytelling potential
- Old textiles become new products with a story – ideal for emotionally connecting with guests and creating innovative marketing content.
2. Easy entry into sustainable business models
- You can test how circular approaches fit into your operations – with no risk, and gain practical experience for the future.
3. Save resources & show responsibility
- Reduce disposal costs, save valuable resources, and position yourself as a pioneer in hospitality sustainability.
Participation & selection process:
- Fill out the form to express your interest → to the application
- Submit 1–4 types of textiles with at least 20 identical items each (e.g. used or unused bed linen, terry towels, curtains, uniforms, etc.)
- Textile suitability is reviewed by the fff team and designers
Transformation process:
