Today, Wi-Fi is part of a hotel’s basic equipment. Yet guests often only discover the real quality of the connection after they arrive. This is exactly where WPerf™ comes in.
Wi-Fi is much more than a “nice-to-have”
Whether business travelers, families, or holidaymakers, a stable and high-performing Wi-Fi connection is now an integral part of a good hotel stay.
Guests today compare room prices, star ratings, wellness offerings, and reviews. But for an equally important factor, a simple and reliable indicator is still missing: how good is the Wi-Fi in this hotel?
Reviews on booking platforms can offer some clues, but they tend to be subjective. What one person calls “fast” may already be insufficient for another.
WPerf™ creates a basis for comparison
WPerf™ aims to create a standardized evaluation system for Wi-Fi quality in hotels.
The principle: assess the quality of the Wi-Fi experience according to a consistent, transparent methodology, then translate the results into a clear, understandable score. Hotels that meet the criteria of the WPerf™ standard can obtain certification awarded by WPerf™ , which they can then use in communication with their guests.
The evaluation isn’t limited to technical performance. It aims to measure what really matters: the digital experience actually lived by the guest.
Is the Wi-Fi reliable? Is performance sufficient for multiple devices? Can guests work, make a video call, or stream comfortably?
The goal is to create a common language between hotels and their guests.
Added value for guests and hotels
For guests, WPerf™ would bring more transparency and a better decision criterion when choosing a hotel.
For hotels, this standard would offer a way to showcase investments made in their digital infrastructure and demonstrate that they meet their guests’ current digital needs.
Because good Wi-Fi is no longer just an internet connection: it has become an integral part of the guest’s digital experience.
A standard for the hospitality industry?
Classic speed tests give only a one-off snapshot of performance. WPerf™ goes further, evaluating, according to a common methodology, both the technical quality of the Wi-Fi and the digital experience actually lived by guests.
The ambition is to make WPerf™ a reference standard for the Wi-Fi experience in hospitality.
WPerf™ is now entering an essential phase: testing and validating the standard in real hotel environments.
To this end, we are looking for pilot hotels as well as expertise in Wi-Fi, networks, and hospitality to contribute to this validation.
We want to hear your opinion
How important is Wi-Fi quality to your guests? Would an independent evaluation of Wi-Fi quality be useful? And what added value should such a certification bring to your establishment and your guests?
We’d love to hear your thoughts. You can send us your feedback at: hospitalitybooster@hotelleriesuisse.ch
Because perhaps a question as simple as “How good is the Wi-Fi?” will soon become a new digital quality standard in hospitality.
